The seaside spa Grömitz itself offers first-class events and leisure time activities for the whole family. More attractions can be also be found in the vicinity of Grömitz. A highlight for the family is a visit to the “Hansa Park Sierksdorf”, Germany`s only amusement park by the seaside with its spectacular roller coaster, wild water slide, huge swingboat and many other attractions. Enjoy a visit with the adorable and funny donkeys at the “Donkey Park Nessendorf” with its nursery for baby-donkeys and donkey carriage rides. Explore the under-water world at the “Sealife Center in Timmendorfer Strand” and at the “Ocean Centre of Fehmarn” with one of Europe`s biggest shark aquariums. Also located at Fehmarn is the “U-Boot-Museum” (Submarine Museum) with an original “U-Boot” of the German Marine.
Cultural points of interest
Especially worth visiting is the ”Benedictine Monastery” in Cismar, dating back to the 13th Century, located only 5km from Grömitz and easily reached by bike. Also in Cismar there is the “House of Nature” with Germany`s biggest collection of snails and mussles. Only a few kilometres away the “Lighthouse Dahmeshöved” is open during the summer season and offers visitors a magnificent view of the sea and coastline. At the “Museumshof Lensahn” (the “Rural Museum of Lensahn”) you will get an impression of local historical rural architecture and handicrafts. Especially worth visiting is the “Gut Görtz”, one of the last well preserved historical manors in Holstein. In the rebuilt stables beautiful handcrafted gifts can be purchased. Visit the “Oldenburger Wallmuseum” and experience how our Slavonic forefathers lived and how they colonized eastern Holstein. Always worth visiting is the old Hanseatic city, the “Hansestadt Lübeck”, with its city gate dating to the Middle Ages, the Holstentor, the famous 7 churches and the historic old town.
Visit nearby Eutin where each year during July and August the “Eutiner Festival” takes place. Musical performances are staged in the unique natural setting right on the shores of Lake Eutin. During the summer months, the “Schleswig-Holstein-Musik-Festival” presents a colourful musical programme. Concerts from classical music to jazz are performed in traditional concert halls, country manors or spacious parks.
